To the Believers of Jato-Mat Tato Path

Dr. Biplab Pal

Although, I am personally highly grateful to Ramakrishna Mission, the concept of Jatomat-Tatopath is against the scientific objectivity. Ramakrishna's original idea after practicing all the religions: Truth is one and different practices lead to same truth. Even if we accept for the sake of argument that the religious truth is not a hallucination ( Though I am convinced it is a hallucination ) and indeed an objective truth exists, different practices can be thought to be guided experiments to draw same conclusion. Despite astounding similarities between Gita and Quaran in the matter of personal sacrifice, absolute devotion and jingoism, for scientific purpose, practice of Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism are significantly different..in the other words, where Buddhism dump the concept of God and focus on four noble truth, Islam is focussed on absolute devotion to God and his/her prophet. So, both the experiments start with a different objective and practice!

Most of monks from Ramakrishna order do not belive in it either. Some of them are true Hindu fundamentalists. Few weeks back, one of the monks in Trabuco Cannyon Monstary in Southern CA, commented a loaded statement .." Without religion, world will be a cruel, unethical place " while illuminating a Sunday mass. Unfortunately I was present on the spot and had to protest against him vocally reminding his Guru's " Joto Mot Tata Path". I tried to remind him, world is less cruel place in modern times because of the work of western rationalists/scientists and indeed world will be a less cruel place without religion.

However, I didn't have much luck as I was told not to create noise! I was also told, Ramakrishna Mission accepts the limitation of rationality in the religion for the sake of superior realization ( GB is indicating in the same line through RamProsad).

I am ignorant about the state of realization. I am not sure whether my cummilative incremental realization from science is superior or inferior state of realization. But, I am sure despite I met several high ranking monks and fathers, I am yet to meet any religious personality with better realization than me! However, I always meet scientists who have far better knowledge and realization than me! So, I do not see any reason why I will not depend on my small incremental realization through science.
