What we can do now?

Mukto-mona encourages to build international public opinion to appeal to the judiciary of Bangladesh to annul the recent verdict against Ms. Taslima Nasrin. You are requested to do everything possible to support the efforts of Mukto-mona in this issue.

I am shocked to hear that humanist writer Dr. Taslima Nasrin, currently in exile being accused of "hurting religious sentiments of followers of Islam" through her writings and convicted to one year imprisonment by the verdict of a magisterial court of Gopalganj district of your country.

I feel It is the right of everyone to express freely one's opinion in any civilized society and I hope that you will guide Bangladesh to an open and pluralist society.

I appeal through you to the judiciary of Bangladesh to annul the verdict against Ms. Taslima Nasrin since she was not provided by the court with adequate defence facilities or a defence councillor - to which she was legally entitled. I strongly support the international campaign in defence of Dr. Nasrin.
