An afternoon with Mrs. Asma Kibria Dhaka Dear Muktomonas, Today (7th February) we met Mrs. Asma Kibria, a noted artist and wife of late Mr. Shah ASM Kibria at her residence Malancha, Dhanmondi at 5 p.m. I rushed to her residence after attending the public meeting held at Central Shahid Minar at 4 p.m. arranged by the representatives of the civil society to pay respect to the departed soul of ASM Kibria. Our team included among others, national professor Kabir Choudhury, Shariar Kabir, free lance journalist, and president of Ghatak dalal nirmul kamiti, Justice Sobhan, Prof. Bohranuddin Khan Jahangir, Shahid Jaya Mrs. Shyamali Nasrin Choudhury, Artist Rabiul, Prof. Muntasir Mamun, Ms Ferdousi Priyabhasini, Ms Daulat Ara Mannan, Barrister Mannan, Kazi Mukul et al. On our behalf Prof. Choudhury expressed our deep condolence at the sad and unfortunate demise of erstwhile finance minister and a noted politician Shah ASM Kibria. We have almost an hour-long exchange of views regarding the movement launched by Kibria family led by Mrs. Asma Kibria. I personally assured Mrs. Kibria my solidarity and cooperation in her effort to bring the culprits to justice through impartial and international investigating agency. I categorically pointed out however, that the government would never allow an international investigating agency to work free of government intervention. We must not have any illusion about government�s intention, whatever our LGDR minister and general secretary of BNP said in muktangan today in full throated cry, �whether AL wants or not Kibria incident to be unearthed, we in BNP government would go to any extent to find the killers and punish them.� I politely said to her that our fight must ultimately be directed to unseat this facist, if I may use old terminology, government of Khaeda-Nizami alliance. This government is not only incapable, but tyrannical and oppressive too. To me the main contradiction prevailing in the Bangladesh today is the fundamentalism, communalism and obscurantism. We who believe in secular liberal democracy and pluralism, the ideals that late Mr. Kibria upheld during his lifetime, must be prepared for a prolong struggle against this evil force fundamentalism. It is apparent to me that fundamentalists would have not dared to such killings unless they get inspiration and tacit approval from 4-party alliance government. Mrs. Asma Kibria elaborated her programme action for next few weeks, to which we collective offered our support and cooperation. The programme briefly may be stated as follows: 1. District wise peaceful protest rally and formation of human chain similar to what was done on 3rd February. This will be held on 12. 02. 05 from 4. to 4.30 p.m. 2. From 13. 02. 05 each day in front of Late Kibria� house seventy-three people would stand from 4-6 p.m. and kindle candles in the evening. In this programme individuals and organizations would participate. Programme would continue for seven days. 3. Mass signature collection protesting killing of ASM Kibria and other such killings and demanding impartial investigation that would lead to punishment of these killers. The programme has been named as �Rakter Akshare Shapather Swakshar� ( Signature of vow with letters in blood). The translation of this programme is attached separately in a file.
